Smithy and Doctor Who go for a kickabout in the park

NEW Doctor Who Matt Smith showcased his footballing skills yesterday alongside the hit sci-fi show’s latest recruit – Gavin and Stacey star James Corden.

The comic actor, who plays Smithy in the award-winning Barry-based sitcom, was in Cardiff to film his part in the cult drama after letting slip to a fan on a train last month that he had been booked to appear in it.

The pair took a break from filming scenes to enjoy a kickaround in the city’s Victoria Park, much to the amazement of passers-by.

The BBC has refused to confirm whether Corden will be a friend or foe of the Doctor.

Corden is the latest of a series of high-profile actors to perform cameo roles in Doctor Who. Others have included Kylie Minogue, Bernard Cribbins and Timothy Dalton.
