A compilation of all the Doctor's regenerations from 1963 - 2010, including 10th Doctor David Tennant regenerating into 11th Doctor Matt Smith.

All footage taken from the original episodes (along with original audio):

1. William Hartnell becomes Patrick Troughton:
The Tenth Planet, Part 4 (1966)

2. Patrick Troughton becomes Jon Pertwee:
The War Games, Part 10 (1969)

3. Jon Pertwee becomes Tom Baker:
Planet Of The Spiders, Part 6 (1974)

4. Tom Baker becomes Peter Davison:
Logopolis, Part 4 (1981)

5. Peter Davison becomes Colin Baker:
The Caves Of Androzani, Part 4 (1984)

6. Colin Baker becomes Sylvester McCoy:
Time And The Rani, Part 1 (1987)

7. Sylvester McCoy becomes Paul McGann:
Doctor Who: The Movie (1996)

8. Paul McGann becomes Christopher Eccleston:
(no onscreen regeneration exists)

9. Christopher Eccleston becomes David Tennant:
The Parting Of The Ways (2005)

10. David Tennant becomes Matt Smith:
The End Of Time, Part 2 (2010)

Sidenotes:

* The Doctor can regenerate two more times for a total of 12 regenerations (and 13 incarnations of the Doctor) according to Doctor Who mythology.

* Colin Baker declined to appear in his regeneration scene after being fired by the BBC, so the regeneration sequence in 'Time And The Rani' (1987) features Sylvester McCoy in a blond wig regenerating into the 7th Doctor.

* No regeneration of Paul McGann into Christopher Eccleston exists. Nine years had passed between the 1996 Doctor Who telemovie and the 2005 series reboot, and producer Russell T Davies felt that beginning the 2005 series with a regeneration would be too confusing for new viewers.

* Patrick Troughton is never seen physically changing into Jon Pertwee onscreen. At the end of 'The War Games' (1969) the 2nd Doctor is forced to regenerate by the Timelords and Patrick Troughton is last seen spiralling off into a vortex. However Jon Pertwee's first appearance as the Doctor wasn't until the following year in the story 'Spearhead From Space' (1970).

You know what's funny is Doc 9 took it like a man, basically "Bring it on," but then Doc 10 was a wuss about it, "I don't wanna go" boo-hoo. Kind of sad really because none of the others were like that. What's going to happen at the end of 11, he gonna run and hide in the closet.. hahaha
