Matt Smith was asked to apologise on The One Show after saying the word 'CRAP'. Matt Smith was talking about the stories he had written that involved the Doctor and Einstein, to get him in the right frame of mind for the part, and said that they are probably crap.
A short clip (see a previous post for link) of the new series of Doctor Who was shown, and when we returned to the studio, Matt apologised 'for saying the c r word'.
Was an apology really necessary? What say you Totters people?

Not to me he doesn't. But for the kids out there, well, I can see why he may be asked to or if he , himself felt the need to.
