Mr E outside Cineworld, Cardiff for Doctor Who Series 5 Press Launch
I popped down to Cineworld, Cardiff earlier this evening to have a butchers, and was pleased to see Matt Smith's TARDIS parked outside! It was a shame I couldn't get past security, owing to Royal Mail losing my invite! (yeah right!). I guess I'm going to have to wait until 03 April to watch the first episode!

BBC commissions '24'-style drama 'Siege'
BBC One has commissioned a real-time drama in the style of 24.
Siege, a new four-part series, is about a botched kidnap plot at a London secondary school.
Holding 100 civilians hostage, the kidnappers demand the release of a notorious war criminal from a British jail. When the Government stands firm, the siege takes hold.
"After developing the original Five Days and seeing the viewers' appetite for contemporary television events, the logical next step seemed to play out a drama in real time on consecutive nights and Kate Brooke is the perfect writer to take on such a challenge," said executive producer Simon Curtis.
BBC One controller Jay Hunt added: "This compelling thriller will build on BBC One's reputation for unmissable drama events."

Karen Gillan has said that she is "in love" with her Doctor Who character Amy Pond.
The 22-year-old actress stars as the new companion opposite Matt Smith's Doctor in the upcoming series, which premieres on April 3 at 6.25pm on BBC One.
Gillan told The Observer: "It's been an education in itself to work with Matt, who's so endlessly inventive, bringing something new to it every day rather than falling into the easy default scared-face.
"That's one of the challenges. You're faced with life-threatening situations every episode, but you can't just widen your eyes all the time."
She continued: "Yes, this Doctor is pretty good. As, I've said, is Amy, and she gets to wear all these small skirts, which I will admit was very cold, but also very cool.
"They originally wanted to put me in trousers, but I did say I'd like to wear a skirt because - you'll understand when you watch it. Actually I think I love Amy. I'm in love with her. I want to be her."
Gillan added: "Amy's a sassy lady, funny and passionate, and her relationship with The Doctor has a really interesting dynamic. She has a love for him, a really deep love for him. But not romantic."

The BBC Programme Information site is saying the new series will begin on Saturday 3rd April at 6.25pm.
The Doctor has regenerated into a brand new man, but danger strikes before he can even recover. With the TARDIS wrecked, and the sonic screwdriver destroyed, the new Doctor has just 20 minutes to save the whole world - and only Amy Pond to help him.
The date and time have not been confirmed by the BBC Press Office and are subject to change. The series is referred to as Series Five on the website and the duration of the episode is noted as 60 minutes.

Doctor Who girl 'completely nervous' about series debut
Doctor Who's new companion, actress Karen Gillan, says she's "completely nervous" about the airing of her first episode.
The 22-year-old admitted the series debut was always going to be daunting but that the production team were all "really proud" of their work.
Doctor number eleven - Matt Smith - will also be introduced when the show returns at Easter.
Gillan said her on-screen partner would win over fans and silence those who've raised eyebrows about choosing a relatively unknown young actor.
"What Matt's done is something completely incredible", she said. "He's completely made the part his own and I think people really are going to fall in love with his Doctor."

A celebration of the TV sidekick.
Narrated by Catherine Tate (Donna Noble to David Tennant's Dr Who), Sidekick Stories looks at the role of the assistant/companion on television, from drama to sitcom, and light entertainment to children's programmes.
What are the literary antecedents of the TV sidekick - and who's the greatest of them all? What's the dramatic function of the game show hostess? Did the That's Life reporters feel emasculated? How do you create a memorable robot? And what's it like playing straight man to a puppet?
We examine the role of the companion in Dr Who (the man with the most sidekicks in TV history) and reveal the hidden talents of the magician's assistant. “I think there’s a magic to it. Steven has written a rather brilliant fairytale, in such a magical way. The Doctor’s getting to know his new body, which is just brilliant, all the great stuff that Steven’s done with that. What’s interesting about this particular series is that it has a thread twining through it. And you learn about that in episode one. And the Doctor’s scoping it out. It’s quite important for the rest of the tale.”

The pair took a break from filming scenes to enjoy a kickaround in the city’s Victoria Park, much to the amazement of passers-by.
The BBC has refused to confirm whether Corden will be a friend or foe of the Doctor.
Corden is the latest of a series of high-profile actors to perform cameo roles in Doctor Who. Others have included Kylie Minogue, Bernard Cribbins and Timothy Dalton.

'I only considered acting after injury crushed my dreams of becoming a footballer,' says new Doctor Who star Matt Smith

Matt Smith has revealed how he only began considering acting after his promising football career was cut short.
The actor was tipped to become a professional footballer, playing for Leicester City and Nottingham Forest youth teams.

Matt Smith has revealed that he tried to make his Doctor Who audition "crazy" and "silly".
Speaking to Esquire magazine, the 27-year-old actor likened the role to playing Hamlet.
"I tried to make it as funny as it should be but it's a bit like playing Hamlet," he said. "It has to be your version. The Doctor is so committed, whoever plays him.
"So I tried to be creative and artistic, and silly, and crazy, and also the cleverest man in the world, and part of that is there's a rapidity to the way he speaks."
He added: "He's an intergalactic genius, a superhero-ish, mad, fumbling, bumbling, science geek. He's everything you can pluck from any universe and put into him."

Matt Smith has revealed that he required medical attention after collapsing during filming for forthcoming movie Womb.
The 27-year-old actor was reportedly shooting in freezing temperatures near the Baltic Sea when he refused to let a stunt double perform the scene.
"It was in St Peter-Ording, on the north coast of Germany. They said I could use a double but I'd worked myself up to do it," the Daily Star quotes Smith as saying.
"So I went into the sea three times. It was the coldest I've ever been," he added. "The next shot we did, we were running along the beach and I was suddenly so frozen I just hit the deck. I couldn't move."

Doctor Who star Matt Smith has revealed the series of strange coincidences that led to his new role as the Time Lord.
His mother sent him a text message suggesting he would make the perfect Doctor - a week before David Tennant opened up a vacancy by announcing his decision to quit.
At university, Smith was nicknamed "Doctor Who" because he wore a scarf similar to the one worn by Tom Baker in the television sci-fi show.
"I don't know, it's funny," Smith told Esquire magazine when asked if he felt destined for the role.
"At university I had a big coloured scarf and people would often say, 'All right, Doctor Who?' And I thought, I rather liked that notion."
A week after the text from his mother, Smith's agent told him about Tennant's departure and arranged an audition. He will appear in the BBC One series in April.
"It's a bit like playing Hamlet. It has to be your version," the 27-year-old said.
"The Doctor is so committed, whoever plays him. So I tried to be creative and artistic and silly and crazy, and also the cleverest man in the world, and part of that is there's a rapidity to the way he speaks.

Smith originally planned to become a footballer and was a promising player at Leicester City's academy, captaining the under-15s and playing against Jermaine Jenas, the future England midfielder.
But a back injury ended his dream and the realisation that he would never turn professional left him in tears.
"Essentially the white tissue in my back wasn't regenerating because I was playing too much, and if I'd carried on then in my mid-twenties I'd have had to have an operation, and you don't really want to be having surgery on your spine.
"It was very tough though. I remember crying because that was all I'd ever invested in. I hadn't really considered acting."
In the interview, Smith was asked why Doctor Who makes such a "crap lover" despite various women, including Billie Piper's Rose Tyler, falling in love with him.
Smith explained: "It's because he's too busy. He finds humans fascinating, but imagine if you'd travelled round for 900-plus years on your own with this great weight behind you. He's an addict - if he stopped saving the world, he'd be in real trouble."
